Saddle River, Alpine, Franklin Lakes and Englewood Cliffs are home to some of the grandest houses in New Jersey, with foyers, galleries and dining rooms built for a floor that does more than cover the ground. Inlays, borders and custom parquet turn a floor into part of the architecture. Our patterns and borders are made in our boutique shop, from existing patterns or entirely custom designs.
Brass And Metallic Inlays

A thin line of brass set into wood catches the light and gives a floor a tailored edge. We have installed brass and metallic inlays in New York City homes and showrooms, and in a private residence in Bergen County we built a custom parquet with a brass inlay. Brass works well to frame a foyer, mark the threshold between rooms, or outline a parquet field. See more on our custom inlays page.
Inlays In Chevron And Wide Plank

Inlays are not limited to parquet. We have combined brass and metallic inlay with chevron and wide plank floors, where a metal line can run along the chevron’s center or frame a run of planks. In a long Saddle River gallery, an inlaid line can tie the floor to a ceiling beam or a stair landing. Explore the base floors in our chevron collection and wide plank collection.
Wood Borders And Domestic Species

A wood border frames a room the way a molding frames a wall. Our shop works in domestic species including white oak, red oak, walnut, cherry and maple, so a border can contrast with or echo the main floor. A walnut band around a white oak field is a classic choice for a formal dining room. Borders also solve practical problems, such as squaring a pattern to walls that are not quite straight. Our parquet installation guide explains layout.

Custom Parquet Patterns

Some of our favorite floors mix species in one pattern. We have built a pinwheel parquet in wenge, purpleheart and yellowheart finished in WOCA Natural Oil for a Manhattan residence, and a custom box-pattern parquet in oak, maple, walnut and wenge for a New Jersey estate. Each starts with a drawing and sample panels before anything is cut. Browse our parquet collection, or read about creating a custom floor.
Finishing An Inlaid Floor

Mixed species and metal need a finish that treats each material well. Natural oils such as WOCA bring out the color contrast between woods, while keeping a matte surface that flatters brass. Sanding an inlaid floor takes care, since metal and different woods wear at different rates. Our sanding and refinishing team uses German planetary sanders that remove only the necessary material, which protects fine details over the life of the floor.
