Homes along Westchester’s Long Island Sound shore, in Rye, Larchmont and Mamaroneck, mix shingle-style cottages, Tudor revivals and newer waterfront houses. Each wants a floor with presence that still feels relaxed. Teak has a long maritime history, and oak is the classic choice for a family home. Here are three options from our Listone range and British Collection that suit the Sound Shore well.

Burma Teak: Tectona Grandis

Burma teak (Tectona grandis) comes from Asia and is offered as solid wood in a Superior grade. In the straight pattern it is 20 millimeters thick in widths from 91 to 191 millimeters and random lengths from 500 to 2000 millimeters or more. It can be supplied unfinished, or prefinished in UV oil or natural oil. Its golden tone suits a sunroom or a living room facing the water. It is also offered as a herringbone collection.

Teak In Herringbone

Teak herringbone is 20 millimeters thick and offered in Italian, French and Hungarian versions. A teak herringbone entry hall makes a strong first impression in a Tudor or Colonial house, and the pattern pairs well with straight teak planks in the rooms beyond. Like all our solid floors, it is typically nailed, or nailed and glued, to a plywood subfloor. See the full range of patterned species in our herringbone collection.

Yorkshire: Superior Oak

Yorkshire is Superior oak sourced from North America and Europe, part of our British Collection, which is always supplied prefinished. Straight planks are 20 millimeters thick in 141, 181 and 191 millimeter widths, in random lengths from 500 to 2000 millimeters or more. Its herringbone is a generous 141 millimeters wide. In a shingle-style house, a clean Superior oak keeps the look fresh and lets the architecture lead.

Cornwall: Grey Stained Oak

Cornwall is Superior oak, grey stained with a natural oil finish. Straight planks are 20 millimeters thick in 141, 181 and 191 millimeter widths, with random lengths from 500 to 2000 millimeters or more, and it is also made in herringbone. A soft grey oak recalls driftwood and weathered docks, which suits a waterfront house without feeling themed. It also hides sand and everyday wear better than a very pale floor. See our Cornwall herringbone.

Yorkshire And Cornwall Together: Parquet Model #3

The two oaks also meet in our parquet Model #3, a large 1364 by 1692 millimeter panel that combines Yorkshire and Cornwall. The contrast between natural and grey oak creates a geometric pattern that suits a formal dining room or a large foyer. It is a striking way to bring a custom floor into a Sound Shore house.
