Why prefinished, engineered European oak suits Midtown co-ops and condos, and what the Atelier Huggins line offers.

Renovating in a Midtown tower or prewar co-op comes with limits: concrete slabs, set work hours, shared hallways and neighbors on every side. A prefinished floor arrives with its finish already applied, so there is no on-site coating, drying or finish odor. Our prefinished collections include curated European oak and walnut lines in many formats and surface treatments.
Why Prefinished Works In Apartment Buildings

Because the finish is applied before delivery, a prefinished floor can usually be lived on as soon as it is installed. That matters in a building where each day of work needs board approval and the elevator must be booked. Engineered construction also helps: our wood floors guide notes that engineered wood can provide improved dimensional stability in many assemblies, though the right choice depends on the product, substrate, humidity range and installation design.
The Atelier Huggins Line

The Atelier Huggins line offers wide plank European oak, American walnut and maple, with Versailles parquet, herringbone and chevron options, and each plank can be custom milled into herringbone or chevron formats. Chevrons include Pomelo, Mikaela, Stefani and Blaise; herringbones include Portaviva, Piandoro and Caravita. Explore the patterns in our chevron collection and the full range on the prefinished page.
Inside A Prefinished Chevron

Take Pomelo Chevron and Mikaela Chevron. Both are engineered European oak (Quercus petraea) in a rustic grade, 5/8 inch thick, with planks 4 3/4 inches wide and 28 1/8 inches long. Both are supplied prefinished in a UV oil finish. The rustic grade carries knots and natural variation, which gives a chevron floor warmth and helps it wear gracefully in a busy apartment.

Over Concrete And Radiant Heat

Many Midtown condos sit on concrete slabs, and some have radiant heat. Engineered floors like Pomelo and Mikaela can go over plywood or concrete subfloors. For wide planks, gluing and nailing is good practice where possible, and a floating installation is also an option, recommended over radiant heat systems. Our installation team checks the slab and moisture conditions first, following the NWFA practices described on our parquet installation page.
Versailles Panels Without The Wait

For a formal living room or foyer, the Atelier Huggins line includes Catrina, Theo, Ana and Louis Versailles parquet. Prefinished panels bring the look of a French palace floor to an apartment without days of on-site finishing. If you prefer a floor finished in place, our custom parquet collection and herringbone floors can be sanded and oiled on site with low-VOC and zero-VOC finishes.
