Colorful Wood Floor Options

To add a classic, timeless feel to your home, a hardwood floor provides that ambiance better than any other improvement, bar none. With countless species of wood available, it may feel overwhelming to not only choose a type, but also a color. We have just the right options to choose from with our fine selections of wood. And, choosing a color to suit the personality of your home is stress-free with this variety of wood types and their respective colors.

Acacia

A species that has numerous subspecies, acacia is one of our favorites because of the assortment of colors it comes in. Full of knots and grains, acacia is never dull and can add some much-needed variety to a home. This variety you’re looking for though, comes in several different colors. Depending on what part of the world and what subspecies of acacia it is, the color can range from medium gold or a reddish brown to deep browns and even some olives. For a home that needs its rooms brightened, subspecies on the lighter end of the color spectrum, like Acacia Koa, are good options. To make a bold statement and have a contrast with furniture, a subspecies with a deep reddish brown color gives that specific character.

Birch

The subspecies of this type of wood tend to be named by color, so it is easy to choose the color you’re looking for. Yellow birch, however, may be a bit deceiving; while it is a lighter hue, it is more of a bronze, and sometimes having an almost-white sapwood. Gray birch, on the other hand, is the wood that actually looks more yellow-colored in appearance. (Surprising as when in tree form, this species is white.) Sweet birch doesn’t denote a color, but its other name of cherry birch hints that there are red hues visible in this floor choice. Sweet birch is one of the lightest colors you can find, so it isn’t as dark red as a wood like mahogany, but it still has hints of red in their appearance. Across the board for birch, grains and knots are basically nonexistent. Rather, the appearance of birch is uniform with a few wavy patterns here and there. To give a universal feel to your home (regardless of what color you choose), birch is the smart choice.

Hickory

As hickory ranks on the higher end of the Janka Hardness Scale for wood species, it’s no wonder this wood has popped up as a popular floor choice in many homes across the country. Rugged enough to handle the daily routine known as life, hickory is another wood that has various subspecies. A common character trait of hickories, though, is a surprising difference within the heartwood and the sapwood. For most hickories, the heartwood is a medium reddish-brown color or can be a dark brown. The sapwood of most hickory subspecies is the lighter color, having a pale yellow-blonde appearance. Hickory is a forward choice to have as your hardwood floors because of its contrasting color tones and its heavy, not-so-linear grain pattern.

Hardwood floors add a specific charm to your home that other flooring options can’t. But what you want that charm to say about you and your home also depends on the color of the floor. The woods available at Timeless Designs have different subspecies that range in color and patterns, allowing you to choose the floor to give the perfect feeling you desire.
