Course Description

How Saw Cut Affects Wood Flooring Appearance & Performance

The way a log is sawn has a significant effect on both the visual character and dimensional behavior of the resulting wood flooring.

This course explores how different saw cuts affect the appearance and performance of real wood flooring. Architects, interior designers and construction professionals will become more familiar with the sawing methods available so they can specify flooring that better meets the aesthetic and performance expectations of their projects.

Participants will examine wood flooring saw cuts, how each cut influences grain appearance and performance, differences in lumber drying and the relationship between moisture, grain orientation and dimensional movement.
