RUBIO MONOCOAT COLORS

Rubio Monocoat colors allow us to both color and seal wood floors in one convenient application. Monocoat contains no harmful VOC’s and is completely non toxic. Rubio’s colors can also be mixed, and when coupled with our pretreatments & precolors the options for colors is endless.

How can this stuff actually color the floor and seal it in just one application? Here is what they say about it on their website!“Monocoat adheres with the first microns of wood by molecular bonding… because of molecular bonding, no surface film can form, and no variable saturation can occur. Not only is a second coat not required, the finished wood will not accept a second coat.”

WE HAVE STAIN COLORS TOO!

Interested in stain colors? Huggins rdwood offers many different shades of wood floor stains; from modern gray / charcoal colors, white washed looks, nearly black floors and every color in between.

STAIN COLORS

Want to stain your new or newly resurfaced wood floors? Huggins Hardwood offers many different shades of wood floor stains; from modern gray / charcoal colors, white washed looks, nearly black floors and every color in between. We can also change the color of floors and seal them in one convenient, non-toxic application with Rubio Monocoat. Rubio offers 40+ colors. When considering staining it is very important to understand that stain is not meant to be completely uniform like paint.
The beauty of staining is that the stain is not uniform and that it takes differently in the different grains of the wood leaving a wonderful look and feel. It is also important to understand how stain takes on your wood species. While oak floors take stain pretty uniformly, other harder woods don’t soak up as much stain or their grain structure can take stain dark in some areas in light in others. This is especially true of woods like maple & Birch.

Non-Toxic Rubio Monocoat – Stain+Finish in 1 application

STAINING WATER PRETREATMENT  – WATER POPPING

Huggins Hardwood uses a water pretreatment on all floors that we stain, this process that’s also called “water popping” involves wiping the entire surface of the floor down with a mixture of water & denatured alcohol. As this mixture dries it raises the grain of the wood which allows the stain to take as evenly as possible and it also gets a richer coloring. This process is included as part of our price for staining. Other companies charge extra for this extra step, so when comparing quotes if be sure you are making an apples to apples comparison as our rate may seem higher, but you may not be getting this extra very important step.

STAINING  PRETREATMENTS – SMOKING/FUMING/WOOD AGING & MORE

In addition to using water pretreatments on stain jobs to help get the best stain job possible. Huggins Hardwood also offers other staining pretreatments including;  Fuming, Smoking, Aging, and more. These special non-toxic mixtures area sprayed over the floor while the wood is in it’s raw unfinished state. As these liquids dry they create a mild non-toxic reaction with the tannin oils that are naturally present in some woods. This reaction gives the floors gray, white, driftwood or aged color/undertone. When done before the application of the stain this can both create somewhat of a textured look in the floor and they can give more depth to colors.

As always we are always happy to make any potential clients samples utilizing any of our staining colors + techniques to help you compare colors to to other paint colors, baseboards, cabinets colors etc from the light of your own home.

When staining, Rhodes Hardwood goes to great measures to produce the best stain job possible. You may find that our company charges a bit more to stain a floor then other companies. However, we would challenge our tried & true process and the overall value of our process to any other company.

As noted above we always use a water preferment with all stained floor (at no extra charge), this added step is something that other companies either don’t do, or charge extra for. Most importantly we take an extra very important step in our sanding process (when staining) that many other companies avoid, and this is the use of our Lagler Trio Planetary sanding machine for the final sanding. This is a very expensive machine and the use of it involves a lot of extra work so most other companies use a standard floor buffer to make this crucial step easier. The reason the use of this machine is so crucial is because in order to get the best/ most even stain job possible a floor much be sanded as closely to perfect as possible. This state of the art machine does just this. By running this machine over the entire floor at the very end of the sanding process this machine does the last fine/detailed bit of sanding more flawlessly then any other machine available in the world.

Again, be sure you are comparing apples to apples when comparing quotes. Unless someone is taking all these extra steps;  using the quality staining products we offer, has the unlimited color/texture options, uses the specialty equipment we use etc then you would be settling for less then we are able to offer of a truly professional staining application.

Please Note: Stain colors can vary from the samples shown above. If you want to stain your floors, we ask that you narrow your choices down to a few of these colors. We will then make samples out of the exact wood type that you have. This allows us to illustrate how a particular stain will look on your floor.

FMD-OGO-FINISHES

Custom fuming, smoking & creative effects for wood floors! Endless possibilities of colors, finishes, & textures!

FUMING – $3/SF

Fuming is an application to wood floors that creates a special graying effect through a tannic acid reaction. We are able to do this to both new and existing flooring. This gray color that this process creates makes for a great color for the floors, or it can act as an undertone for other stains or hardwaxes to be applied on top of it which can create a textured look with certain colors, or can create an amazing depth of color with other colors. We’re able to fume even low tannin woods via a special tannin treatment done prior to fuming. We are also able to adjust the extent of the fume so we can make the wood take on a subtle gray, or a very deep almost charcoal colored grey.

This Red Oak Floor was fumed and then finished with 5% smoke colored Rubio Monocoat.

SMOKE TREATMENT – $3/SF

Smoking is another tannic acid reaction. Smoked floors take on an aged sort of patina. We are able to finish floors that have been smoked with either a clean polyurethane or hardwax, with a stain (for a color with a lot of depth), or with a colored hardwax for a textured look. As with our fume, we are also able to adjust the extent of the smoke effect from a mild very light tan/brown lightly aged look, to a deeper/darker brown aged look.

PRE COLOR TREATMENTS – FROM $5/SF

Rubio Monocoats Precolor product is a waterbased coloring product similar to a deeply pigmented stain or dye. When combined with our many pretreatments and wide range of hardwax oil colors these colors can serve lots of different purposes. They can serve as the main color for a floor, they can have colored hardwaxes applied over them for contrasting color or ceruse look, the white shades can be used to drown out pink tones in red oak prior to using a white finish and much much more. When combined with all of our other custom finishing techniques, the options for colors and looks is literally endless.

We’re able to wire brush the entire surface of wood floors with our specialty wire brush machines. BLEACHING – $3/SF

Bleaching is the process of applying a bleach that is specifically made for wood. This pretreatment provides a mild whitish color to many different wood species. It’s applied in very thin layers so we can really dial in the extent of the bleached look. The bleach floor can then be the finished look, or it can be used to drown out the red tones in woods like red oak.

EBONIZING – FROM $3/SF

Ebonizing is a process that grays or blackens certain woods. This process is achieved through a natural reaction between a proprietary solution we have perfected and the tannins that are naturally present in certain woods. We can get different looks from gray to black with the process based on the mixture we use and the intensity of the reaction. Ebonizing makes for a very cool way to color a wood floor or it can act as an undertone for other hard wax oils or stains to be applied over which can create textured looks or lots of color depth.

CERUSING – FROM $9/SF

Cerusing is an old finishing technique that was used years ago by furniture builders and finishers. This is a textured or 2 toned look that is achieved by wire brushing certain woods (to scrape out some of the soft grain) then staining or dying the floors and then filling in the soft grain with a different color. We can do any color combination; black with white grain, gray with white grain, white with black grain etc.

WOOD LYE FROM $3/SF

Wood lye treatment is a non-corrosive form of bleaching or graying woods. This mild solution is made from a small amount of the type of lye that soap is made from. This can create a bleached or aged driftwood sort of look. Our custom lye blends can be top coated with any of our finishing products; waterbed finish, oil based, or hardwax oils.
