Authentic American Reclaimed Wood: Sustainably Salvaged & Reimagined

Our reclaimed wood is sourced from century-old barns, factories, and agricultural buildings across the United States. These historic American timbers—dating back to the 1800s and early 1900s—are salvaged through a meticulous process of building deconstruction, not demolition. Each board and beam is carefully removed piece by piece to preserve the integrity and character of the material until it reaches our mill.

Once salvaged, all metal elements such as nails, screws, and bolts are thoroughly removed. The wood is then kiln-dried and re-milled into premium products for flooring, wall paneling, and ceiling applications. This careful transformation brings new life to abandoned American timbers—now rich in story, strength, and timeless appeal.

Unlike modern lumber, reclaimed wood offers exceptional durability and a distinctive aesthetic that simply cannot be replicated. Each piece holds the spirit of America’s architectural past while supporting sustainable, environmentally conscious design.

All of our reclaimed wood materials are milled and finished 100% in the USA, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship and care.

Pricing is offered on a per-project basis, tailored to the unique requirements of your space.

Milled Face

Matte Low VOC Waterbase Poly

Our Reclaimed materials are finished with either a low VOC water-based polyurethane in – Natural Matte – or an all natural VOC free flax-based oil.

SURFACE / FACE TREATMENTS

Our Reclaimed floors are milled in 3 distinct surfaces:

  • ORIGINAL FACE The full patina of the original reclaimed wood including original saw marks, and oxidized metal stains remains on this face. Each plank in this surface is brushed and lightly sanded to clean them up and make them suitable for either flooring or walls. This is the must rustic & raw look in our reclaimed materials.
  • HIT OR MISS FACE Some areas of the board are sanded smooth while others are left with an original face, this technique is sometimes referred to as “skip-planing”. Ths is the middle ground between the rusticity of Original Face and the refinement of Milled Face.
  • MILLED FACE Most every board in a Milled Face reclaimed is sanded smooth, leaving only traces of the original face and inherent saw marks. Milled Face materials can also come from the center of larger reclaimed timbers such as large beams and joists, etc. This is the cleanest and most elegant look in our reclaimed materials.

  • Solid wood is typically nailed, or nailed and glued, to a plywood subfloor.
  • Engineered wood is typically glued down to concrete or plywood subfloors, with or without an underlayment such a sound abating mat or a moisture barrier, depending on site conditions/requirements.
  • Engineered floors are also usually the best choice for gluing down over radiant heat installations.
  • In either format, when planks are particularly wide, gluing and nailing is always good practice if possible.

The Allure of Reclaimed Wood Floors

A Rich History

Each plank tells a story, whether it’s wood salvaged from an old ship or beams from a barn that’s stood for centuries. This historical depth adds an extra layer of richness to your design projects.

Unmatched Character

Reclaimed wood floors offer a level of character and uniqueness that’s hard to find in new wood. The natural aging process brings out the wood’s texture, grain, and color variations, creating a floor that’s as beautiful as it is unique.

Types of Reclaimed Wood

Barn Wood

Sourced from old barns, this type of reclaimed wood offers a rustic, weathered look that’s rich in history.

Factory Wood

Salvaged from old factories and industrial buildings, factory wood offers a cleaner, more uniform look while still providing plenty of character.

Exotic Woods

Some reclaimed wood floors are made from exotic woods, sourced from old ships or overseas structures. These woods offer a unique, luxurious aesthetic that can serve as a focal point in any design project.

Installation Considerations

Subfloor Preparation

A well-prepared subfloor is crucial for the successful installation of reclaimed wood floors. This may involve leveling, repairing, or replacing the existing subfloor to ensure a smooth and durable finish.

Acclimation

Before installation, the wood needs to acclimate to the room’s humidity levels. This helps to minimize potential issues like warping or cracking.

Installation Methods

Various installation methods can be used, depending on the type of reclaimed wood and the specific needs of the project. These include nail-down, glue-down, and floating installations.

Design Flexibility

Versatility

The unique characteristics of reclaimed wood floors make them incredibly versatile. They can complement a wide range of design styles, from rustic to contemporary, adding a touch of elegance to any space.

Customization

Reclaimed wood floors offer a high level of customization. Whether you’re looking to incorporate intricate inlays or unique finishes, the possibilities are virtually endless.

Maintenance and Care

Regular Cleaning

To maintain the beauty of reclaimed wood floors, regular cleaning is essential. This includes sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and debris.

Periodic Refinishing

Over time, the surface of the wood floors may show significant signs of wear and tear. Periodic refinishing can restore their original luster and extend their lifespan.

Repair and Restoration

One of the advantages of reclaimed wood floors is their durability. If they do sustain damage, they are often easier to repair than new wood floors, thanks to their robust structure and aged quality.

Conclusion

Reclaimed wood floors offer architects and interior designers a unique and aesthetically pleasing flooring option. With their rich history, unmatched character, and design flexibility, they are more than just a flooring choice; they are an investment in quality and style.
